Morin-Heights Viking Loppet

10 km Jan Nordström Course Description (2010)

The course is designed for juniors and inexperienced skiers and is only 8.7 km in length. Only an average amount of stamina is required to complete the course. The majority of skiers should be able to complete the course in an hour and a half.

The course starts in Montfort and follows the Aerobic Corridor. The Corridor is an abandoned railway line and is a combination of level terrain and downhill grades of 1 to 2 per cent. There is a feeding station at Bennett Road (8 km). A half a kilometre later, the course crosses Highway 329 and 250 metres later will turn right onto Rockcliff road where it leaves the Corridor and climbs to the base of Bellevue Ski Hill and the finish line.

The Aerobic Corridor will be double-track set with a wide centre lane for passing. Skiers will be sharing sections of the Corridor with participants registered in all three events, as well as the general public. There will be control points along the way. However, due to the overlapping nature of the events, skiers must pay attention to junctions where there may not be a marshal. It is the skier’s responsibility to follow the signs for their particular event.

Skiers can request assistance at any feeding station and medical help will be arranged.

This is a classical event and SKATING is NOT permitted. Skiers caught skating will be disqualified.
